Summary

Two parts of one chain. The core barrel is the hollow tube a core passes through; it does nothing on its own and exists only as an ingredient. The column bore module is built from two of them and gives an electric drill the ability to take a column three blocks tall: the one you aim at, plus one above and one below.

Both are deliberately built out of parts the mod had no use for: the reinforced invar plate had no consumer recipe at all, and the choke and reinforced choke worked only inside their own line.

The module does nothing in your hands. It does not fit onto a drill and does not react to a click — the upgrade table takes it, eats it, and writes the upgrade onto the tool.

What the upgrade does

A drill carrying the column bore breaks the block above and the block below the one it hits, so a corridor you can walk through takes one pass. The line's rules hold: Silk Touch, when it is on, applies to all three blocks, and so does Fortune; protected land and adventure mode give up nothing extra. Only blocks a pickaxe can take join a column.

Each extra block costs 75 EU/FE against 50 EU/FE for the one you aimed at — 200 EU/FE a stroke instead of 50. A drill that cannot pay for the whole column breaks one block rather than starting what it cannot finish.

The mode is switched with the L key: both mouse buttons on this drill are taken — a plain right-click places a torch, and sneak plus right-click switches Silk Touch on the two tipped tiers.
