Block Breaker

Summary
The Block Breaker is a simple first-tier wooden crate: put a tool in it, run power to it, and it breaks the block right in front of it. Once a block is down it pauses briefly and takes the next one, if something appears in front of it again.
The main rule: the machine breaks exactly like a player holding that tool. A pickaxe takes stone and ores quickly, a shovel takes dirt and sand, an axe takes wood. With the wrong tool the block still breaks, only slowly, like a player chopping stone with an axe. And a block that needs a better tool (obsidian, diamond ore under a stone pickaxe) breaks with no drop — again like a player.
Mini-example: face the breaker at a cobblestone wall, put in a stone pickaxe and run an LV cable to it. Cobblestone takes 15 ticks plus a 10-tick pause: every ~1.25 seconds the block in front cracks and drops; a hopper under that spot collects it.
Energy
| What | Value |
|---|---|
| Internal buffer | 800 EU/FE |
| Max input | 32 EU/FE/t (LV) |
| Draw while breaking | 8 EU/FE/t |
| Pause after each block | 10 ticks |
| Draw while idle | 0 EU/FE |
The machine pays only for the ticks it actually spends breaking. Stone under a stone pickaxe takes 12 ticks — about 96 EU/FE a block — twice the electric drill's price (50 EU/FE a block): the cost of not swinging the tool yourself. While nothing is in front of it, it has no tool or redstone has switched it off, it spends nothing.
Tool
The slot takes tools up to stone tier — this is a first-tier machine:
| Allowed | Not allowed |
|---|---|
| Wooden, stone and golden pickaxe, axe, shovel, hoe, sword; shears | Copper, iron, diamond, netherite and any of the mod's electric tools |
The tool wears, as it would in hand: every broken block costs durability, and Unbreaking works. The last hit breaks the tool and the slot empties — the machine stops with "Put a tool in the slot". Enchantments work: Efficiency speeds breaking up, Fortune and Silk Touch change the drop.
The breaking time is the vanilla player formula for that tool: the tool's speed (plus Efficiency) over the block's hardness over 30 — or over 100 when the tool is the wrong one. The player's "not standing on the ground" and "under water" penalties do not apply to the machine.
What it breaks and what not
- Any block a player can break in survival — chests and machines included. A chest spills its contents, a mod machine drops as an item, a cable gives back its clamp and its stand — all as when a player breaks it.
- It leaves air, fluids and unbreakable blocks (bedrock, barrier) alone; the status then reads "Nothing to break in front" or "Cannot break this block".
- The drop falls into the world where the block was, and so does ore experience.
Owner and claims
The block is broken on the owner's behalf — the player who placed the machine. That means:
- land-claim mods see an ordinary block break by a player and may refuse it: a machine at the edge of somebody else's claim breaks nothing inside it, the screen shows "Breaking is not allowed here", and it tries again after 2 seconds;
- a machine with no owner (not placed by a player) breaks nothing.
Redstone
The button on the right of the screen cycles the mode:
| Icon | Mode |
|---|---|
| Gunpowder | The signal is ignored — always works |
| Redstone torch | Works only while powered |
| Lever | Works only without a signal: a lever on the machine is its off switch |
A new machine starts in "signal ignored". The mode is saved in the block.
Interface
| Left | Centre | Right |
|---|---|---|
| Energy bar | Tool slot and break progress bar | Redstone mode button |
At the bottom, a status line while the machine stands still: "Put a tool in the slot", "Nothing to break in front", "Cannot break this block", "Not enough energy", "Stopped by redstone", "Breaking is not allowed here", "No owner — place it again".
It has the standard upgrade panel: with a statistics chip you see how many blocks the machine has broken in its life, and its draw. The breaker takes no overclockers.
Block properties
- Faces any of the six directions, like a dispenser: the working side looks where the player was looking. A machine already standing cannot be turned — only broken and placed again.
- LV EU/FE consumer; takes energy on every face but the working one, and a cable does not attach to the working face.
- A wooden crate with a copper rim in the style of the first-tier energy storage; the working part at the front moves only while the machine is breaking. The model is not a full cube; the collision is a full block.
- While breaking, cracks show on the target block; they clear when the machine stops or is removed.
- Pickaxe; drops itself when broken.
