Mute Chip
alaindustrial:mute_chip
Summary
The Mute Chip is an upgrade item that drops into a machine's upgrade slot (the first, active slot of the upgrade panel). While the chip is installed the machine is fully silent: the continuous working hum disappears, and no other sounds from the block itself play either. Pop the chip out and the sound comes back.
It's pure convenience — speed, energy use and output are all unchanged. It slots into any machine or generator that has an upgrade panel (a few blocks have none — the Energy Condenser, for one), but you'll only hear the effect on blocks that make sound in the first place. In a silent machine the chip just sits in the slot doing nothing — which is expected.
Mini-example: your macerator bank hums loudly next to your base. Drop a mute chip into each one's upgrade slot and the room goes quiet — grinding speed and EU/FE cost stay exactly the same.
Energy
Uses no energy — it's an item with no energy of its own.
Inventory
Not applicable (item). It only goes into a machine's active upgrade slot; hoppers and other automation don't see the upgrade slot.
Block Properties
Not applicable (item). Stack: 64 in a normal inventory; in the upgrade slot it's 1.
How it works
While a mute chip sits in the active upgrade slot, the machine makes no sound at all — neither its working hum nor any other sound the block would normally play. Everything else about the machine is untouched: same speed, same EU/FE use, same output. Take the chip out and the sound returns.
Recipes
