Summary

The Empty Chip is a crafting component — the blank base that functional upgrade chips are built on. It's an item, not a block. On its own it does nothing, and it cannot be installed in a machine's upgrade slot (the slot rejects it). Its only role is the shared starting point from which the real chips are assembled — the first of which is the Mute Chip. It keeps the upgrade line consistent: you first craft a "blank", then build it up into whichever chip you need. It holds no energy and never goes into a machine as-is.

Mini-example: sandwich an Electronic Circuit between two Copper Coils inside a glass frame and you have an Empty Chip — the blank you then turn into a Mute Chip by wrapping it in wool.

Energy

Uses no energy — it's a plain crafting ingredient.

How it's used

A pure intermediate. It crafts into the Mute Chip and is the intended base for future upgrade chips. Don't try to drop it into a machine's upgrade slot — nothing happens, by design.

Progression

A component with no tier of its own. The common root of the upgrade-chip line — every functional chip starts from this blank, so you make one whenever you want a new upgrade.

Mute Chip — the first functional chip built on this base. Electronic Circuit — its core ingredient. Copper Coil — its side ingredient.
