Tempered Iron

Summary
Tempered Iron is an ingot made by smelting a single vanilla iron ingot. The recipe is strictly 1:1, but the result is a different material — "tempered" iron, from which items come out slightly better than their iron counterparts. It's the source material for the mod's whole same-named line: five tools (pickaxe, axe, hoe, shovel, sword), a four-piece armour set, and a compact 9:1 storage block. The ingot itself holds no energy — it's just a crafting ingredient, like vanilla iron.
Mini-example: drop a stack of iron ingots in a blast furnace and you get a stack of tempered iron — then craft the tempered-iron pickaxe, which mines a bit faster and lasts longer than the vanilla iron one.
Energy
Uses no energy — it neither stores nor transmits it.
How it's used
A crafting and repair material. It builds the Tempered Iron tools (pickaxe/axe/hoe/shovel/sword), the matching armour set, and the Tempered Iron Block (9:1, for compact storage and building). Tools and armour of this line are repaired in an anvil with these same ingots, just like vanilla iron gear is repaired with iron.
Block Properties
Not applicable (item). Stack: 64.
Recipes
The ingot is made by smelting — three ways, all 1:1 (one iron ingot → one tempered iron): Vanilla furnace — the slow, everyday route; gives a little XP, like smelting ore. Blast furnace — twice as fast as the furnace, same small XP (as always for the blast furnace). Mod Electric Furnace — runs on EU/FE instead of fuel, no XP (XP is a vanilla furnace mechanic; the electric furnace doesn't grant it). The reverse route — breaking the storage block back into 9 ingots — is described on the Tempered Iron Block page.
Progression
A material with no tier of its own. The natural step above vanilla iron: once you're smelting iron in bulk you can temper it and craft gear that's a little better than iron on every axis, while still leaving diamond's block access untouched.
