Summary

The Tempered Iron tools are the mod's set of five hand tools: the pickaxe, the axe, the hoe, the shovel and the sword. Each is crafted like its vanilla counterpart but uses the mod's tempered iron instead of iron. Across the board they are a touch better than vanilla iron: 100 more durability, slightly faster mining, +0.5 damage, and a little better at catching enchantments. The pickaxe, axe, shovel and hoe cannot mine diamond-level blocks (diamond ore, obsidian, ancient debris) — same as iron — so the diamond progression is not devalued. They are the natural upgrade slot between iron and diamond.

Mini-example: your iron pickaxe is about to break and you have no diamonds. Recraft the whole kit in tempered iron — pickaxe, axe, shovel, hoe and sword — and you have a full set that lasts longer, hits a touch harder, and enchants a little better, all before you ever see a diamond.

Stats

All five share one tempered-iron material, so the common numbers — durability, mining speed, enchantability — are shared. Damage and attack speed are per tool, as in vanilla. Shared by all five:

StatIron (vanilla)Tempered iron
Durability250350 (+100)
Mining speed6.07.0
Enchantability1416
Mining levelironiron (diamond/obsidian/ancient debris — no)

Damage per tool (iron vs tempered; attack speed matches iron):

ToolDamage (iron → tempered)
Pickaxe4.0 → 4.5
Axe9.0 → 9.5
Hoe1.0 → 1.5
Shovel4.5 → 5.0
Sword6.0 → 6.5

The sword, like the vanilla one, mines cobweb instantly.

How it behaves

Harvesting (pickaxe/axe/shovel/hoe): mine their materials — stone, wood, dirt, farmland — at speed 7.0, slightly faster than iron. Diamond-level blocks drop nothing, exactly like iron tools. Axe: strips bark, lights wood on a right-click, and breaks wooden blocks faster — the full vanilla axe behaviour. Hoe: tills soil and harvests crops, like the vanilla hoe. Shovel: makes a dirt path and extinguishes campfires, like the vanilla shovel. Sword: 6.5 damage (vs iron's 6.0), mines cobweb instantly, knocks back enemies. Combat: every tool hits for +0.5 over its iron counterpart (see the table above); attack speed is unchanged. They need no EU/FE — just ordinary wear. Durability: 350 each (100 more than iron), spent on mining and hits. Enchanting: enchantability 16 (vs iron's 14), so each tool catches enchantments a little better. The enchanting table offers the full vanilla set for each type — Efficiency, Unbreaking, Fortune, Silk Touch, Mending for the harvesting tools; Sharpness, Looting, Fire Aspect, Unbreaking, Mending for the sword. Repair: any of the five tools is fixed at the anvil with one tempered iron.

Recipes

All five are crafted at a workbench in the vanilla patterns of their tool types, with tempered iron in place of iron ingots and sticks for the handles: Pickaxe — three tempered iron on top, two sticks down the middle. Axe — three tempered iron (mirrored vanilla pattern), two sticks. Hoe — two tempered iron (mirrored vanilla pattern), two sticks. Shovel — one tempered iron on top, two sticks. Sword — two tempered iron down the middle, one stick below. Repair is not a separate recipe: any of the five tools is fixed at the anvil with a single tempered iron.

Progression

Hand tools — not tied to the mod's energy tiers. They slot between the vanilla iron and diamond tools: by durability and speed they are closer to iron, and on block access they do not overlap diamond. They appear as soon as you start smelting iron into tempered iron in bulk — a natural upgrade to carry you until your first diamond gear.
