Summary
The Advanced Item Pipe does what the ordinary one does, twice as fast — 4 items per second against two. It still asks for no power, and its sides with the same wrench.
It is visibly thicker than the first tier: a steel body, lighter in colour, with a viewing window in a dark frame in the middle of every piece. You will not mistake the two lines even from a distance, and that is not decoration but part of the rule below.
⚠️ A line runs at the speed of its slowest pipe. One ordinary pipe forgotten in the middle of an advanced line cuts the whole line back to 2 items per second. It is the same rule the cable works by: the narrow spot throttles the whole route. That is exactly why the advanced pipe is made thicker — a forgotten thin piece must be visible to the eye, not only to a measurement. Upgrading therefore means replacing the line as a whole, not plugging in a single segment.
A batch is counted per receiver, and one source serves a receiver per interval: a chest into three furnaces gives 12 items per second, while three chests into one receiver still give 4.
Recipe
Four ordinary item pipes on the sides, four reinforced cupronickel plates in the corners and a silver plate in the centre — the result is four advanced pipes. Ordinary pipes go into the recipe, so the second tier cannot be reached around the first.
