Forge Hammer

Summary
The Forge Hammer is an early-game hand tool for making metal plates before machine automation exists. Put the hammer and an ingot on the crafting grid and you get a plate of that metal. The hammer is not consumed as an ingredient — it stays in the crafting grid and loses 1 durability per plate. This is the deliberately "expensive by hand" path: you can hammer a plate from your very first iron, but you pay for each one in wear until you build a Compressor and start pressing them on electricity.
Mini-example: you need 4 iron plates for your first machine hull and have no compressor yet. Craft a hammer from iron and sticks, put hammer + iron ingot on the grid — out drops a plate and the hammer returns to the grid a little more worn. Repeat four times (or shift-craft a whole stack at once) and the hull is built without a single machine.
Characteristics
| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| Durability | 128 (about 128 plates per hammer) |
| Stack | 1 |
| Enchantable | no |
| Repair | with an iron ingot (anvil) |
Durability 128 means roughly 128 plates from one hammer. The number lives in code (like the mod's other tools — a tool material is built before the config is read) and is mirrored in
How it works
Crafting a plate: on the crafting grid (crafting_shapeless) hammer + ingot → 1 plate. Works for all eight metals: copper, gold, iron, tin, silver, nickel, uranium, tempered iron. The hammer stays: after the craft the damaged hammer drops back into the same grid slot. Implemented as a craft-remainder, not a special recipe, so the recipes show in the recipe book, JEI and REI like ordinary crafts. Wear of 1/plate: exactly 1 durability per plate. Shift-crafting a stack of ingots spends exactly N durability for N plates and stops on its own when the hammer breaks. Breaking: on its last durability point the hammer breaks — the last plate is still made, and the grid slot is left empty. Enchanting: the hammer cannot be enchanted. Unbreaking could not technically work through the craft-remainder mechanic (there is no level or player in it to process a durability change), so rather than a silently useless enchant the hammer is honestly non-enchantable. Repair: with an iron ingot on an anvil.

Recipes
Crafted on the workbench (crafting_shaped, Equipment category) from iron and a stick — a head on a handle, deliberately different from vanilla tools so it does not clash with the pickaxe recipe:

.I.
.S.
I is an iron ingot, S is a stick. The recipe appears in the recipe book when you pick up iron or a stick.
Progression
An early-game hand tool — not tied to the mod's energy tiers. Gives access to plates before electricity: hammer them by hand first, then automate with the Compressor (ingot → plate for 260 EU/FE). Part of Phase 3 (LV Expansion) — plates are needed in LV machine and electronics recipes.
