Biomass
Summary
Biomass is the dense organic residue that sometimes survives fermentation. Of the two outputs of the fermenter it is the unguaranteed one: biofuel is always brewed, while biomass drops on a roll. That is exactly the point of the split: the fluid is what fermentation inevitably yields, the solid lump is a matter of luck.
Biomass has no use yet. It is registered, it is made out of organic matter, it sits in the inventory — and that is all. No recipe in the mod accepts it, and it does not serve as furnace fuel. This is a deliberate placeholder for a future machine of the organic branch; the recycler's "material scrap" already lives in the mod the same way. It is written down honestly so the player does not go looking for a use that is not there.
Obtaining
The only source is the fermenter. The chance by the recipe and depends on the feedstock tier; each batch yields 1 biomass or nothing at all.
| Feedstock tier | Eats | Biomass chance | Batches per item (on average) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Poor (garden litter) | 4 items | 6 % | ~17 |
| Common (harvest, raw meat, eggs) | 2 items | 20 % | 5 |
| Rich (cooked, golden, honey, hay bales) | 1 item | 50 % | 2 |
A batch costs 600 EU/FE and 300 ticks regardless of the tier, so biomass from cheap litter works out at roughly 10 000 EU/FE apiece, and from rich feedstock at 1 200 EU/FE. The difference is deliberate: the chance is a second, rarer reward for expensive feedstock.
A datapack can switch the lottery off entirely: a recipe with no chance field yields biomass on every batch.

Progression
It appears together with the fermenter — a by-product of the start of the organic chain. The chain's main line runs past biomass: fermenter → biofuel → distillation column → nutrient solution → sprinkler. There is no need to hoard biomass for that chain.
