Summary

Sulfur is an early mineable non-metal used to vulcanize rubber. Its ore appears in stone and deepslate, requires a stone pickaxe or better, and drops raw sulfur. The Macerator turns one ore block or one raw sulfur into two dust; a regular furnace gives one dust without doubling.

Mini-example: find sulfur ore between Y −32 and 32, mine the raw sulfur, and macerate it. One raw sulfur yields two dust — half the batch for a single Vulcanizer operation.

Sulfur has no ingot form: it is a non-metal, and dust is its final technological form here.

Where to find it

Sulfur veins appear in the Overworld between Y −32 and 32, with the highest concentration around the middle of the range. Sulfur is rarer than tin but more common than silver: it supports the early rubber chain without becoming either a bottleneck or unwanted surplus.

Recipes (processing)

Macerator: sulfur ore, deepslate sulfur ore, or raw sulfur → 2 sulfur dust for 300 EU/FE. Furnace: raw sulfur → 1 sulfur dust in the standard 200 ticks, with 0.7 XP. Vulcanizer: four sulfur dust are consumed with one raw rubber; heat changes the rubber output, not sulfur consumption. The Distillation Column does not produce sulfur. Ore is the only primary source, and sulfur_dust is deliberately excluded from Incubator duplication recipes.

Progression

Sulfur is available before MV and breaks the circular gate where rubber would be required to reach the machine that produces sulfur. A furnace provides a machine-free route, but only the Macerator doubles the mined resource. Sulfur is the most expensive input of the rubber chain, and Vulcanizer heat is what saves it: a typical run of 16 insulated cables costs 8 rubber, which is 32, 16, or 12 dust at ×1, ×2, or ×3 output — nearly three hours of mining between a campfire and an Electric Heater.
