Sound Absorber
alaindustrial:sound_absorber
Summary
The Sound Absorber is a full block: a steel frame of tempered iron, a perforated grille and orange padding under it. It makes a base full of humming machines quieter: block and ambient sounds around it are heard more softly. Machines, energy and redstone work exactly as before — only what the player hears changes.
Absorbers touching each other by a face join into a group of any shape. The frame between neighbours disappears, the grille and padding merge into one panel, and the frame stays only on the outer edges of the group. The side faces of the outer blocks carry five lamps on their outer horizontal frame: as many are lit as the group's tier.
The tier depends on how many blocks the group holds:
| Blocks in group | Tier | Zone radius | Muffling |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | I | 5 | −35 % |
| 2–3 | II | 8 | −50 % |
| 4–7 | III | 12 | −65 % |
| 8–15 | IV | 16 | −75 % |
| 16 or more | V | 20 | −85 % (ceiling) |
The zone is a cube: the group's bounding box grown by the radius on every side. A sound inside the zones of several groups takes the strongest one; the effects never add up. There is no full silence: even tier V keeps 15 % of the volume.
What is muffled: every positional sound of the Blocks and Ambient categories — the hum of the mod's machines (water mills, wind mills, generators, processing machines), and also vanilla blocks (furnace, pistons) and other mods' blocks. The mod's machine hum never drops below the audible floor, so the loop never cuts out.
What is never muffled: music, the interface, voice, players and mobs, weather, relative sounds (the ones "at the player's ear"), the reactor siren and the Geiger counter's clicks. Subtitles do not change.
How to read it:
- under Shift the item tooltip shows the whole tier scale;
- looking at an absorber, a line beside the hotbar reads "Sound absorbers: group of N blocks — radius R, −X %";
- with the Wrench in hand, the quiet zones of every group around are outlined.
Like wool, the absorber dampens vibrations: a sculk sensor will not hear footsteps behind it (tags minecraft:occludes_vibration_signals and minecraft:dampens_vibrations).
Block Properties
| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| Shape | full 16³ cube |
| Hardness | 2.0 |
| Blast resistance | 6.0 |
| Tool | pickaxe (required for the drop) |
| Drop | the block itself |
| Sound | wool |
| Map colour | orange |
| State | six face flags "neighbouring absorber", group tier tier 1–5 |
The server recounts the group and its tier when an absorber is placed or broken (by a piston too); the client builds the zones from those block states, with no packets of its own. A group bigger than 32 blocks stays at tier V, and the line above the hotbar shows "32+".

| Buffer (EU/FE) | 0 |
| Max input / output (EU/FE/tick) | n/a |
