Summary

The Statistics Chip is an upgrade item that drops into the right slot of a machine's upgrade panel. While the chip is installed the machine keeps a record of its own work, and a summary panel appears in its interface: how long the block actually ran, how much energy it received, spent or generated, how many items it processed, and how many neighbours are wired to it.

Without the chip the machine measures nothing at all. That isn't an interface restriction — the instrument simply isn't there: no counters run, no data accumulates, nothing is stored in the world. Statistics are therefore a deliberate choice: you fit the chip where you actually want to understand what is going on.

Mini-example: your electric furnace keeps stalling and you can't tell whether it's short on power. Fit a statistics chip and you'll see "working time" crawling while "received" sits well below "spent" — the furnace is starved, not broken.

Energy

Uses no energy — it's an item with no energy of its own. The measuring costs the machine nothing either: no EU/FE is spent on keeping the record.

Inventory

Not applicable (item). It only goes into the statistics slot of the upgrade panel (the right one); hoppers and automation cannot see upgrade slots.

How it works

While the chip sits in the slot, the machine counts:

working time — ticks the block genuinely worked, not ticks it stood idle; energy — received from outside, sent to the grid, generated by itself, and spent on its work; processed — completed processing operations; now and peak — the current (averaged) EU/FE/tick rate and the session maximum; connected — how many adjacent faces are joined to sources and consumers.

Counting starts the moment the chip goes in: the instrument knows nothing of the block's past, so a machine that has been running for a week starts from zero. Pull the chip out and the totals are kept but stop growing; put it back and counting resumes from where it left off.

The panel opens from a tab to the left of the machine's interface; you can drag it, and its position is remembered. Values refresh only while the window is open — close it and the machine stops sending data.

Recipes

Built around a copper coil — the same sensing element that sits in the Network Analyzer — with an empty chip at the centre, two glass panes for the display window and redstone for the signal. The chip is the analyzer's built-in little brother: you carry the analyzer and question the whole grid with it, while the chip lives inside one machine and watches only that one.

Progression

An upgrade with no tier of its own. Built on the empty chip, the common blank behind every upgrade chip. Assembled around a copper coil — the same sensing element that sits inside the Network Analyzer. The chip is its built-in little sibling: the analyzer is carried by hand and polls the whole network, the chip lives in one machine and watches only that one.
