Summary
The Advanced Circuit is the second tier of the Electronic Circuit, and the first part that forces you to finish the oil chain. It's an item, not a block: you only meet it as an ingredient in MV recipes.
It's built on top of a finished plain circuit: the circuit itself in the centre, four gold plates along the edges (rewiring it onto a better conductor) and four rubber in the corners (sealing the board). The icon is a near-black board with a green die in the middle, gold contacts and rows of grey pins down both flanks — next to the warm copper-brown Electronic Circuit it reads as the sterner, pricier part.
The point of the tier is to tie together two paths that ran in parallel until now. Metals led to machines, oil led to insulated cables, and they only ever met on wiring. From now on you cannot reach MV without going through oil → Polymerizer → Vulcanizer.
Mini-example: craft a plain circuit, hammer out four gold plates and pull four rubber off your oil line. Circuit in the middle of the workbench, gold on the sides, rubber in the corners — that's an advanced circuit. Two of them go into an Advanced Machine Casing.
Energy
Stores and consumes no energy — it's a plain crafting ingredient.
How it's used
A required part of the Advanced Machine Casing — two per casing. Through the casing it lands in the price of every MV machine; the first of them is the Assembler. LV recipes are untouched: they still ask for the plain circuit and the plain casing.

Progression
Tier: MV. The first component that needs metallurgy and petrochemistry at the same time. Input chains: iron/silver/nickel → circuit and oil → raw rubber → rubber. Both branches have to be finished — there is no way around the oil. Rubber is the expensive input. One piece costs a bucket of oil, four sulfur dust and 800 EU/FE across two machines, so it pays to put an Electric Heater under the Vulcanizer: the same batch of sulfur then yields three times the rubber. The gold goes in as plates, not ingots: a plate already requires a Forge Hammer or a Compressor, i.e. a finished metalworking phase.
