Summary

A Boat with a Mod Chest is a vanilla boat with one of the mod's chests on the stern instead of the wooden one. It floats, rows and carries a passenger exactly like a vanilla chest boat, but it holds as much as its chest does: from 36 slots for the iron one to 108 for the diamond one.

Quick example: hauling loot from a distant mine down a river? A diamond chest on a boat takes 108 stacks — four times a vanilla chest boat.

Any combination works: 11 vanilla boats (oak, spruce, birch, jungle, acacia, cherry, dark oak, pale oak, mangrove, poplar and the bamboo raft) × 6 mod chests (iron, silver, gold, electrum, diamond, shielding) — 66 variants. The boat shows the mod chest itself, with its own texture.

Gold546 rows
Electrum816 rows, scrolling

It opens with the same screen as the chest itself. Shift + right-click the boat to open the chest; right-click to sit in it (if the seat is taken, right-click opens the chest). While sitting in the boat, the chest opens with the inventory key. The screen closes once you drift further from the boat than interaction range.

Crafting

A shapeless recipe on the crafting table: a vanilla boat (or the bamboo raft) + a mod chest. A vanilla chest boat cannot be upgraded to one with a mod chest — it takes a plain boat.

Behaviour

How it works

A boat with a mod chest is the same vanilla chest boat with only its capacity and screen swapped. Each wood and chest pair is a separate item, so middle-clicking it in Creative and breaking it give exactly the boat that was on the water. The boat draws the vanilla model of a plain boat of that wood together with the mod chest's own model, so the chest looks just as it does placed as a block.
