Electrum Chest

Summary
The Electrum Chest is a storage block with 81 slots (9 rows of 9) — half again as much as the Gold Chest (54). It uses no energy; it's the "civilian" top tier of the storage line.
Quick example: gold chest full of ore? Upgrade it to electrum — you gain 27 slots and keep the contents.
Electrum is an alloy of gold and silver, and the chest looks the part: pale gold, lighter and cooler than the gold tier. The lid is animated, and the open sound is the same metallic one the other tiers use.
Inventory
Takes any items — 81 slots across 9 rows of 9.
| Slots | Accepts | Count |
|---|---|---|
| Storage | any items | 81 (9 rows × 9) |
Interface
The window shows six rows out of nine; the rest are reached with the scrollbar on the right — the same way the modular warehouse and the double chest work. The mouse wheel, dragging the thumb and clicking the groove all work.
Shift-click puts items into the rows that are off screen too. That matters: a plain shift-click works over the window's visible slots and at this capacity would silently stop at the sixth row, reporting "full" while a third of the chest sits empty.
Why scrolling instead of one more row
The three tiers below grew by exactly one row each, because the window grew with them. That ended at gold — not by choice, but against a measured screen ceiling.
Panel height rows × 18 + 112. How much height the window actually gets by the GUI scale, and on the default setting the game picks it itself: the scale rises while height / (scale + 1) ≥ 240. The guaranteed minimum is therefore exactly 240 pixels.
| Rows | Panel height | Fits 240? |
|---|---|---|
| 6 (gold) | 220 px | ✓ and that is exactly the vanilla double chest — the tallest container window the game itself ships |
| 7 | 238 px | technically yes — with a one-pixel margin; that is not a margin |
| 9 | 274 px | ✗ |
The gold chest already sits on that ceiling. So the next tier changes the window rather than the number of rows on screen. And once the window stopped being the limit, there was no reason to charge a ring of expensive alloy for a token nine slots — hence the jump straight to 81.
Double Chest
Two electrum chests placed side by side, facing the same way, merge into one double chest of 162 slots (18 rows) — by the same vanilla placement rules as the other tiers: without sneaking a new chest joins a suitable neighbour by itself, sneak-clicking a side face attaches it deliberately, and sneaking elsewhere keeps it single. Different tiers never merge.
The double's window is the same six-row scrolling panel; it just slides over eighteen rows instead of nine.
Lid and sound are shared: both halves lift together and the sound plays once, from the seam. Automation sees a double as one container: a hopper, dropper or item pipe that fills one half continues into the other. Breaking one half returns the other to single; each half drops only its own contents. A comparator reads the fill level (for a double — the combined one, identically from either half), and the chest can be waterlogged.
Block properties
A squat chest block, like every vanilla chest and the previous tiers. Properties are identical to the iron, silver and gold chests.
| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| Shape | squat 14×14×14 column |
| Hardness | 3.0 |
| Blast resistance | 6.0 |
| Tool | pickaxe (any, no tier gate) |
| Drops itself | yes; contents spill when broken |
Recipes
A ring of eight electrum ingots around a gold chest. Contents survive the upgrade.
The same ring of eight ingots gave +9 slots on the previous tiers and gives +27 here — deliberately: once the window changes mechanics anyway, a token increase for the mod's top alloy is not justified.
Progression
The chest line: vanilla copper (27) → iron (36) → silver (45) → gold (54) → electrum (81).
The electrum chest does not devalue the modular warehouse: 81 slots is less than the warehouse's 108, but it is one block instead of four and needs no room to build. A double electrum chest (162) is the largest storage in the mod — and it costs sixteen electrum ingots on top of the whole upgrade chain beneath it.
