Summary

The shielding suit is four pieces — hood, jacket, trousers and boots — and the only wearable protection against radiation. It is not armour: protection sits at the leather line, and what you buy is not numbers but the ability to walk up to uranium, or into a running reactor, and walk back.

The recipe is deliberately early and cheap: leather, rubber, yellow dye and a glass pane for the visor. The reason is blunt — the first version was built from shielding alloy, so the protection arrived later than the reactor that emits the radiation. Protection you can only get after the source protects you from nothing.

Mini-example: you find uranium, put it in your bag, and start feeling sick. You craft the suit out of leather and rubber, put it on, and the nausea stops. You step inside a live reactor core — the suit buys you a couple of minutes of work rather than immunity, and spends durability on every dose it absorbs.

Energy

Not applicable: the suit neither charges nor draws EU/FE.

How it's used

Worn in the ordinary armour slots. Every piece cuts its own share of the dose (25 % by default), so a partial set protects partially — and you can see it on the player: wherever a piece is missing, skin shows.

Radiation weakens with distance, so the suit and a step back work together: right at a column about 5 % of the dose gets through a full set — roughly a minute and a half to a lethal level; one block out that triples, and three or four blocks out the dose barely climbs.

The full set stops the uranium in your own pockets outright; the outside field — uranium on the ground, a reactor with no shell, the rods themselves — is cut by 95 % 5 % of any field always gets through, and that is exactly why at an open core the suit buys time, not invulnerability. Durability is spent on any contact with uranium, paced by how fierce the source is: a point a second at a live core, one every two seconds with a refined-uranium item in your pocket, one every eight with ore. The life of the suit is therefore a TIME: about three minutes in a core, about five with refined uranium carried, over twenty with ore. A broken piece stops shielding.

Repaired with rubber (tag) at an anvil.

On mobs

The suit also protects whoever you put it on through a dispenser — a villager, a wandering trader, a cow. Each piece cuts its 25 %, and a full set protects a mob completely: zero dose from anything, standing right against a running column included. The player keeps a 95 % ceiling in the same spot — a player can step away from a source and a mob cannot, so holding it in a "slightly dangerous" zone makes no sense. The dispenser equips the pieces forgivingly: it looks for a mob not only in the block right at the nozzle but in the area around it (~3×3) — and only a villager, a wandering trader or a cow. With no such mob nearby the piece drops to the g, and the equip sound plays only when the piece lands on its target. An equipped wandering trader stops despawning — that is how vanilla treats an equipped mob (villagers and cows never despawn on their own).

The suit is visible on a villager. The vanilla villager model cannot show armor of any kind (no armor layer — true for vanilla armor too), so the mod draws the suit itself, as overlays on the model's inflated shells: a volumetric helmet with a steel visor over the head (the villager's nose becomes the respirator), a jacket shell with collar, zipper and chest straps over the robe, sleeved arms, trousers and rubber boots. The villager's face is fully hidden behind the visor; a partial set shows partially — each piece renders on its own; a profession hat tucks under the helmet. Works on both loaders, and the villager's animations (walking, crossed arms, sleeping) are inherited from the shared model.

A suit on a mob never wears out — a deliberate decision. A villager can neither repair nor replace a suit, so a piece that silently broke would silently cost a trader. A set worn by a mob shields for as long as it stays on; wear remains the player's price alone.

The stats are low on purpose. A cheap suit with iron-grade protection would be strictly better than iron armour, and players would wear it for the numbers rather than for the job. Here the numbers are honestly bad and the value is the shielding.

Appearance

A rubberised yellow coverall with dark straps, a steel visor and respirator, gloves and rubber boots. In the full set no pixel of the player's skin shows — no face, hands, legs, or even the skin's own second layer: the suit is sealed, and its textures carry no transparent pixel anywhere the model shows geometry.

The one exception is your own hand in first person: in Minecraft 26.2 the armour layer is not composited there for any set at all. That is vanilla behaviour, not an omission. In third person and to other players the suit is sealed completely.

Recipes

Every piece is leather as the base, the mod's rubber as the shielding layer and one yellow dye; the hood additionally takes a glass pane for the visor.

— 3 leather, 1 dye, 2 rubber, 1 pane — 3 leather, 1 dye, 4 rubber — 3 leather, 1 dye, 4 rubber — 2 leather, 1 dye, 2 rubber

Progression

Tier: none, early game. Requires: leather (mobs), rubber (vulcanizer), yellow dye (dandelion), a glass pane. Next: handling uranium and entering the reactor room; storing uranium in a shielding chest and carrying it in a Shielding Pouch, so the suit does not have to be worn around the clock.

Uranium ore — the first source it protects you from Reactor controller — the room it lets you step into Fuel rod assembly — the strongest source in the mod Shielding Pouch — a portable shield for the contents: it splits the work with the suit, taking away the dose from your haul but not the field around you Fluxweave armour — the other utility set, powered by EU/FE
