Summary

The Shielding Pouch is the Battery Pouch lined with lead. It carries, holds and drains exactly the same way: 128 weight in one slot, a 2 000 EU/FE buffer, 1 EU/FE per second while items sit inside, and the lock at zero charge. There is nothing new to learn — you already know how to use it.

There is exactly one difference, and it is the whole reason the item exists: radioactive contents irradiate nobody. Not you, not the mobs around you, not the person mining next to you — and it does not start glowing if you drop it or leave it in somebody else's chest.

It is the portable counterpart of the Shielding Chest, not a replacement for the suit. The pouch stops only what is inside it: rods in a running column, uranium piles on the floor, irradiated soil and other people's chests all radiate as before, and the suit still wears down against them.

Mini-example: you hit a uranium vein at -50. The old choice was a poor one: mine in the suit and watch it melt away against your own haul, or leave the ore behind. Now the ore rides up in a Shielding Pouch — two stacks, zero dose, and the suit can come off while you are still in the shaft. Climb inside a live reactor core, though, and the suit goes back on: the pouch will not help you there.

What it shields

The radiation sweep looks inside carried containers one level deep. The Shielding Pouch is the only one it does not look into at all, and that is not a side effect — it is the item's entire mechanic.

Two of those rows used to read the other way round, and that was a hole rather than a design: the sweep knew only about the contents of shulkers and barrels, so uranium in a vanilla bundle and in a Battery Pouch irradiated nobody at all. A bundle of leather and string was a free lead chest, and the Shielding Pouch would have had nothing to be better than. All three kinds of storage are read now, and exactly one exception is left — this one.

⚠️ It shields its CONTENTS, not its carrier. A pouch of uranium in your pocket is safe; a uranium ingot loose in the same pocket is not. Put it inside.

Energy

Lead needs no electricity, so the energy here is the Battery Pouch's, and it buys the same thing: the ability to keep anything in the pouch at all.

FieldValue
Charge held2 000 EU/FE
ChargingBattery Box charge slot — full in about 3 seconds
Drain1 EU/FE per second, only while items are inside and it is in your inventory
Runs flat inabout 33 minutes of carrying items
When emptycontents lock — and keep on shielding

Shielding does not depend on the charge. A flat pouch behaves like a locked safe: you cannot get the uranium out until you recharge it, but it does not start radiating either. Forgetting to charge it is an inconvenience, not an accident.

Contents

The pouch is one inventory slot holding up to 128 weight — the same two stacks of ordinary items the lower tier holds. Weight is counted by stackability, as with a vanilla bundle:

Item typeWeight of 1Fits in 128
Ore, ingots, dust (stack to 64)1128 items (about 2 stacks)
Pearls, snowballs (stack to 16)432 items
Tools, buckets (no stack)642 items

There is no filter for radioactive things: it is an ordinary pouch and takes anything. Two stacks cover a trip for ore; it deliberately will not haul tonnes of refined uranium — bulk storage is what the Shielding Chest is for.

How it behaves

Putting items in: right-click a stack onto the pouch (or the pouch onto a stack) inside an inventory. Items fill an existing partial stack of the same type first, then take up new weight. Anything that does not fit stays in your hand. Taking items out: right-click the pouch in the air or on an empty slot to pull the whole top stack (last in, first out). The lock at zero charge: both operations are blocked; the contents stay locked away — and shielded — until you recharge. What drains it: 1 EU/FE per second, only while items are inside and the pouch is in a player's inventory. In a chest, on the ground, or in a charge slot, it costs nothing. In creative: it does not drain at all — like the whole powered family in this mod. The readouts: the charge bar under the icon; in the tooltip, the contents grid, the "weight / 128 (NN%)" fill bar and two lines about the item itself — a green "radioactive contents irradiate nobody" and a yellow "does not replace the shielding suit". Nesting: a pouch cannot go inside another pouch. It can go inside a vanilla bundle or a shulker box. If the pouch itself is destroyed: burnt in lava, caught by an explosion, popped on a cactus — the contents drop on the ground instead of vanishing with it. And there, of course, the uranium radiates like any uranium on the floor. On drop or death: the charge, the contents and a name you set all stay with the pouch. Rename it: at a vanilla anvil.

Recipes

An upgrade rather than a new thing: a Battery Pouch and four shielding plates — the same alloy the reactor room's shell is made of. The layout does not matter, only the set of ingredients.

The pouch survives the upgrade whole. A transmuting recipe carries everything the input item held over to the result: the charge, the contents and any name you gave it. A pouch full of ore can be upgraded down in the shaft without unpacking it.

Progression

Tier: LV. The second tier of the carried-pouch line. Requires: a Battery Pouch and shielding alloy (palladium + tempered iron), so it opens up along with the nuclear branch. Next: mining and hauling uranium without the suit. Long-term storage is the Shielding Chest; work at the machines and in the reactor still means the suit.

Battery Pouch — the first tier: all of the same, minus the lead. Shielding Chest — the stationary counterpart: the same principle, 36 slots instead of a pocket. Shielding Suit — protection from the field; the pouch does not replace it, they split the work. Shielding Alloy — the plates for the upgrade. Battery Box — charging. Uranium ore — what you take the pouch down the mine for.
