Carbon Briquette
Summary
The carbon briquette is the middle of the chain and the only place where slag joins the carbon. Two double carbon rods are fired in the alloy smelter together with slag from the Recycler, and one briquette comes out.
Mini-example: two doubled rods (that is, a stack of coal) plus two ordinary slag briquettes give one carbon briquette. It cuts straight into four ceramic plates.
The grade of the slag does not change the result, it changes how much of it you need. The more carefully you sort your junk in the Recycler, the cheaper the firing — and that is the only thing the sorting rule of this mod pays for.
| Slag grade | Slag per firing | Output |
|---|---|---|
| Poor | 4 briquettes | 1 carbon briquette |
| Ordinary | 2 briquettes | 1 carbon briquette |
| Rich | 1 briquette | 1 carbon briquette |
Recipes
2 double rods + slag → 1 briquette (alloy smelter, 1,200 EU/FE, 7.5 s).
Splitting the briquette
A fired briquette has to be split, and only the press splits one. Four plates make one block, so a block costs one stack of coal plus 8 redstone dust.
| Method | Plates | What it needs |
|---|---|---|
| Quench press | 4 | water, a piston and 2 redstone dust per briquette |
There is no crafting recipe at all. Plates come only out of the press — that is what replaced the dull "briquette in a grid, plates out".
Until there was a second path: right-clicking any water source paid 3 plates with no build and no redstone. It was removed — beside it the press was a way to earn one extra plate rather than the way ceramic is made.
The quench press is built from vanilla blocks: dig a hole, pour water, put a piston facing it. Throw briquettes and redstone into the water and give the piston a signal — the instant it extends, the press takes one briquette and two redstone dust per shot and pays four plates each. Whatever the redstone cannot cover keeps floating: an over-fed press loses nothing, you just fire it again. Steam and a hiss confirm it fired.
The press automates with vanilla: a dropper feeds briquettes into the water, an observer or a clock hits the piston, a hopper catches the plates.
Careful: an extending piston destroys the water source. Two adjacent sources refill each other — build the press that way and it reloads itself.
There is no way back: a briquette does not come apart into rods, and plates do not reassemble into a briquette.
Progression
The briquette needs the whole lower half of the chain at once — a macerator, a compressor, a hammer, a Recycler and an alloy smelter. Before it, coal in this mod was only generator fuel.
