Summary

The carbon rod is the first rung of the chain where coal stops being fuel. Sixteen coal dust press into one rod in the compressor; two rods are worked with a forge hammer into a double carbon rod.

Mini-example: a stack of coal gives 64 dust → four rods → two doubled ones. Exactly what one briquette needs.

Neither of the two is good for anything else: the rods exist so that coal is spent in stages rather than in one lunge.

Forging costs no energy at all — the hammer's durability pays. It is the same gesture the mod already uses for a reinforced plate (a hammer plus two ordinary ones), so a player already knows it.

Progression

Rods are available as soon as you have a macerator, a compressor and a hammer. After that you need a Recycler for slag and an alloy smelter — without them the doubled rods sit in a chest as dead weight.

Carbon briquette — what two doubled rods become. Ceramic plate — the next rung. Carbon ceramic — the block at the end of the chain. Forge hammer — the forging tool.
