Summary

Metal gears are a family of crafting components: stone, iron, gold and silver. All four are built from the same blank — a wooden gear — pressed with a cross of their tier's material. They are items, not blocks: they exist only as ingredients.

The mod already has the wooden gear, which goes into the Wind Mill, its Wooden Rotor, the Water Mill and the Stock Display Frame. The metal gears carry that same line further up the material ladder. The iron gear already works: the Fluid Tank, the Item Pipe and the Wrench are all built on it.

Note: the stone, gold and silver gears build into nothing for now — no recipe consumes them. They were added ahead of the machinery of upcoming work (MV/HV drives). Until the first consumer lands this is a dead-end branch of the crafting tree, and that is a deliberate decision, not an oversight.

Energy

They use no energy — plain crafting ingredients.

Usage

The iron gear is a working ingredient: the fluid tank, the item pipe and the wrench are built on it. The stone, gold and silver gears have no consumers yet — their niche, parts for MV/HV machinery and drives, will arrive later.

For reference, the wooden gear itself is four sticks in a cross around a wooden button.

Each gear's recipe shows up in the recipe book as soon as you hold a wooden gear and the matching tier material.

Progression

Components with no tier of their own. A step between the wooden gear and future machinery: stone is the cheapest, iron the workhorse, gold and silver for jobs that will call for a pricier metal. The silver gear is the only one tied to a metal of the mod itself — it gives silver a use beyond the Silver Chest.

Wind Mill — consumer of the wooden gear. Water Mill — consumer of the wooden gear (block craft). Water Mill Wheel — consumer of the wooden gear. Stock Display Frame — another wooden-gear consumer. Copper Coil — another early-game crafting component.
