Summary

Nickel is the mod's scarcest and deepest metal, held in reserve for the entry into the MV tier — it will become the alloy for MV machine casings and advanced circuits. Its ore spawns in stone and in deepslate, deeper and rarer still than silver, and is mined with any stone pickaxe or better.

Mini-example: the same two routes as tin and silver — furnace gives 1 ingot per ore, the Macerator gives 2. But nickel is the rarest of the three, so macerate every block and raw drop: you will not find many.

There is no vanilla nickel, so the ingot is a mod item. Nickel already does work today: it goes into the electronic circuit (alongside silver), and that circuit is a required component of both evolution chips (day and night), which turn the solar panel and the wind mill into their reinforced T2 versions.

Where to find it

Nickel is the scarcest of the three metals: small veins sitting deeper than any other, near the bottom of the world. You will only find it while mining deep, and even then rarely.

It behaves like a vanilla ore: it needs a stone pickaxe or better, the drop scales with Fortune, and Silk Touch yields the ore block itself.

Recipes (processing)

Two routes out of one vein. Furnace route (no machines): smelt the raw (or the ore) into an ingot — 1 ingot per ore. Macerator route (doubling): grind a block of ore or the raw into 2 dust, then smelt each dust into an ingot — 2 ingots per ore. Re-processing a finished ingot grinds back down to 1 dust (no doubling). The doubling applies to both the whole ore block and the raw — macerate either form.

Progression

Nickel is already in demand at LV: it goes into the electronic circuit, without which no machine or generator can be built. That same circuit is a component of both evolution chips that launch the T2 evolution of the panels and wind mills. Its role as the alloy behind the MV machine casing and the advanced circuit will be added later, at the MV tier — so spare nickel won't sit idle.
